    SPARTA Names Brian D. First, Chief Underwriting Officer
     Mr. First was part of the original team that launched SPARTA Insurance in 2007. He has been SPARTA’s Chief Marketing Officer and member of the company’s Executive Underwriting and Corporate Risk Committees for the past four years.

    Mr. First succeeds Brian P. Mulroy who is retiring after 32 years in the insurance industry. Mr. First has been responsible for developing, underwriting, and managing insurance program portfolios throughout his 21 years in the insurance industry. 

    Prior to joining SPARTA,Mr. First served as President of Discover Re’s specialty markets captive program division and as Managing Director and Chief Underwriting Officer of The Hartford’s alternative markets division. “Brian is an expert in underwriting and design for the unbundled program model. His strong distribution relationships and underwriting expertise have been instrumental in the development of SPARTA,” said George L. Estes III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We are confident that he will successfully lead our underwriting team and build on the great foundation established.”

    MGIA holds Michigan's First Tree-Worker Safety Clinic, presented by ArborMasterMGIA clinic The ArborMAX Insurance Program sponsored the “Tree-Worker Safety Clinic presented by ArborMaster” that was held during the Michigan Green Industry Association’s (MGIA) 24th Annual Trade Show & Convention in March. The program packed the house with tree care professionals from across the state. Program content include classroom-style and live demonstrations. The 200-plus attendees had the opportunity for a little hands-on participation in knot tying and demonstrations on the trade show floor. Wishing you all a safe and successful 2011 season!

    ArborMAX Customer Service at its best.Chris von Allmen with the Garrett-Stotz Company was preparing quotes for Grasshoppers Lawn Care & Landscaping as their policy expiration date was Saturday, April 23rd. Brian Tunge, VP of Marketing, had recently sent a targeted email to Grasshoppers informing them of the ArborMAX Program. On Thursday, April 21st, Chris, at the request of Grasshoppers, called Brian to see if ArborMAX could provide a quote. Chris did not expect a quote given the lack of time. The ArborMAX team of Mike Rook (Program Manager) and Laine Malatesta (Underwriting Assistant) received the submission that afternoon and provided a quote the next day. Chris then met with the owner of Grasshoppers and bound the account at 5 p.m. on Good Friday.

    With the experience of the entire staff at ArborMAX, and the fact that we are a relatively small office focusing only on tree care companies and insurance for the tree care industry, we can provide customer service and efficient turnaround times for our clients and our agents.
